Ryan Tubridy's surprising admission as he returns to RTE's Late Late Show

Ryan Tubridy made the surprising admission that he still gets star-struck ahead of his return to the Late Late Show last night.

The RTE star revealed that he can be taken aback when meeting certain guests, and claimed it isn't always the ones you would expect.

He said: "I do get star-struck sometimes by the most peculiar things.

"Sometimes you meet somebody who mightn't have been a rock star or an actor, but somebody who was in the news a lot and you suddenly see them that day, and you're maybe not just 'star struck' but it's like 'I've been watching you all week'."

And Tubridy went on to share his dream interviewee as he joked that he is unlikely to ever meet him in person.

He added: "You could talk to somebody whose books you love or whose movies you love, and you're allowed to be a fanboy.

"I've never interviewed Paul McCartney from The Beatles but I'd be useless interviewing him, I'm such a Beatles fan, the thought of having him in front of me.

"The chances are if I ever get near him it'll be on zoom.

"And I'm glad for his physical wellbeing, and that his lawyers will know this in advance, that it will be from a distance.

"But most of the people I idolise were in black and white, and therefore are long dead."

Tubridy's revelation came ahead of the much-anticipated return of the evening chat show to our screens last night.

The show had a jam packed line-up including the two girls who were rescued recently in Galway, legendary commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh and acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn.
