Ryan Tubridy's RTE Radio absence explained as replacement takes to the airwaves

Ryan Tubridy is set to be absent from his RTE Radio One show this week as the broadcaster gears up for a break.

Tubs finished up his TV gig this week for the year as the last episode of the Late Late Show this year aired.

And the RTE star will also be stepping away from his weekday radio slot with comedian Oliver Callan to step in for the coming weeks.

Ryan last week confirmed he would taking a break from his morning radio show following the last Late Late Show of the year as he seeks to recharge after "running out of gas".

However, thankfully it's not for too long with RTE confirming to RSVP Live on Friday that Ryan Tubridy will resume his morning radio show in two weeks time.

The veteran broadcaster last week said that he would be taking a couple of weeks off to "regroup".

I'm not going to lie to you, I'm kinda running out of gas, that's the truth of it.

"I've got to get to Friday which is the last Late Late Show of the season.

"Then I'll be off for a couple of weeks to regroup.

"Like everyone, it's been a good old run but I had to double check to see it was Tuesday and what the text number is.

"You'd think you'd know these things when you do them every day but you're running to get there."

It has been a busy series for the show as Ryan chatted to a host of famous faces including This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, CervicalCheck campaigner Vicky Phelan, Dave Grohl, drummer from Nirvana and frontman of Foo Fighters, Kathy Bates and President Michael D Higgins.

Tubridy is also hopeful that the Late Late Show may be able to have an audience back in studio next season.

Following the final episode of the season on RTE put out an application to the public to sign up for the next season indicating that bosses are hopeful to have people in the studio once again.
