Ryan Tubridy 'proud to be Irish' after hearing Muslim woman's heartwarming story about moving to Ireland

Ryan Tubridy said he was "proud to be Irish" after hearing a woman's heartwarming story about moving to Ireland.

Samia Kahn moved to Ireland over five years ago with her husband after he got a job here.

The mum-of three was asked by him if she wanted to wear a headscarf or not as many people wore them.

However, she has worn it and been astounded by the kindness and welcoming of the Irish people.

She said: "I've never been so happy.

"The quality of life in Ireland is incredible.

“I’m speaking as someone who was raised in the UK.

“The people here are amazing.

“The sense of community, the value of community.

“I am from a minority, I wear a headscarf, I am originally from Pakistan.

“My husband said do you really want to do that? There is not many wearing them.

“In the school yards, mums will speak to you.

“In London, nobody ever had time for that.

“Whether it’s a boiler engineer, the chats you have with people are great."

She feels that the Irish people in general are very humble and shy when they receive praise considering how kind they are.

The Pakistan native added: “Whenever I recognise you or applaud you, the Irish get shy.

“Everyone should spend three weeks of your life in Ireland to know what humanity should be like.

“I say it to my friends abroad but as soon as they land here, they’re already in love with the place

“It’s not like this in other parts of the world, your normal is extraordinary in other countries.

“I applaud the Irish for this.".

Ryan Tubridy was blown away by the reaction and it filled him with national pride.

The Dubliner said: “I’m taken aback by this surge of national pride.

“For you to observe what you have with such generosity.

“For you to talk about your headscarf in the schoolyard or talking to the guy to fix your house.

“That you did wear the headscarf and receive that welcoming is very heartening."
