Ryan Tubridy said he is keeping a Late Late Show chair warm for Dalkey’s most famous new resident Matt Damon.
The Hollywood star has become a local in the posh south Co Dublin village after he flew in to film Ridley Scott’s new movie The Last Duel.
With filming halted due to Covid-19, Damon and his family have had to isolate in the scenic spot.
Tubs, made the admission on his RTÉ Radio 1 show after a listener questioned whether the star would be appearing on the show before he leaves Ireland, saying: “I hardly think so.
“I think he probably has better things to be doing. But, you know, we’ll keep a chair warm for him in the event that he wants to show up. He’ll always be welcome.”
His comments came after hearing that the New York Times had contacted Dalkey residents online to find out whether they had any news on the Hollywood star.
He went on to tease a “great” line-up for Friday's Late Late Show, with Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald among the guests.
He said: “Given that she tested positive, she’ll have an insight into the virus, that the others haven’t, and with that in mind I look forward to hearing what she has to say about it.
“I’ll tell you who else is on the show in the next day or two.
“But, weirdly, we have a great show lined up - I dare say it another great show.
“We like what we do and we hope to keep you entertained right up until the end of May, at which point we will be going on our TV summer holidays.
“But our radio show continues apace - we won’t be going anywhere.”
