Ryan Tubridy drops tantalising hint about this year’s Late Late Toy Show theme

Ryan Tubridy gave a brief – but tantalising – teaser this morning about a potential theme for this year’s Late Late Toy Show.

The RTE host slipped in a subtle reference to the Toy Show on radio this morning, leaving fans on tenterhooks about what the nation’s favourite programme could look like this year.

Tubs, an outspoken advocate of mask-wearing as the Covid-19 pandemic rages on, played a parody Disney-like tune that urges people to mask up.

And as the ditty reached its crescendo, the Dubliner giggled: “And that’s the theme for this year’s Toy Show.”

He quickly followed up by assuring listeners: “That’s a joke.

“Couldn’t it be, though?”

The race to figure out the theme of this year’s Toy Show – which takes place on November 27, days before Level Five restrictions are due to lift across Ireland – has hotted up in recent weeks.

A mischievous Tubridy sent fans wild earlier this month when he shared a photo of himself standing atop a yellow table, arms folded, in the middle of top-secret rehearsals for the Toy Show.

And on radio, he told listeners the picture was from a dance lesson he had been taking in preparation for the Toy Show.

“The guys upstairs are doing their nut trying to guess it,” he laughed.

“And I’m saying ‘no, you’re wrong, you're wrong’.

“I’m loving it, loving the power, but they haven’t got it right, or near it actually.”

Elsewhere on his radio show this morning, Tubridy was passionate as he wondered aloud about the implications of the controversial Mother and Baby Homes bill.

He lamented the passing of a bill in the Dáil that looks set to seal the archives of a report into the conditions in Ireland's Mother and Baby Homes.

“I'm worried that the archive is going to be buried away for 30 years and these people will remain with their questions unanswered,” he said.

“Don't we as a generation deserve to give them the respect of answers? And the respect of listening to their story and giving them their identity?”
