Ryan Tubridy and Late Late Show viewers upbeat as expert offers 'hope' on Ireland's Covid-19 situation

Professor Luke O'Neill left Late Late Show viewers feeling hopeful after his Covid-19 assessment for Ireland.

The world-renowned expert joined Ryan Tubridy on Friday night to discuss how the country is faring with the virus.

The immunologist said the next six months are vital in the battle against the deadly virus.

Prof. O'Neill said: "We're not as bad as France and Spain so people are responding to some extent, but the climbing numbers tell that we need to do more.

"And it's the usual things, social distancing, wear a mask, hand hygiene, avoid the three Cs..crowds, close spaces and close contact.

"It's obvious in a way. Six months Ryan, we have to really double down for the next six months.

"I reckon it's key because there is hope."

The disease expert was praised for viewers for "telling it like it is" and giving some form of optimism in regards the virus.

Stephanie Regan tweeted: "Luke o Neill measured - all about what you CAN do ..... Where hope lies. We really need this balance."
