Ryan Tubridy has admitted that the critically acclaimed new Elvis film led him to 'man tears.’
Speaking on his RTE Radio One show, Ryan expressed how much he adored the film he was but found himself let down by legendary actor Tom Hank's performance.
"I was nervous, I'm a big Elvis fan and I was a little nervous going like 'what is this'. I like Moulin Rouge, I liked Romeo and Juliet and I loved the Great Gatsby, all directed by Baz Luhrmann so I was ready for it," he said.

"I loved it, I love, love, loved it. It took me a little while at first, first 20 minutes I had to get my head around the actor, Austin Butler's Elvis voice was just a little bit... different. Weirdly Tom Hanks is the weak link in this film. He plays a heavily accented, which I'm sure that's what it was, Colonel Tom Parker with a prosthetic that wasn't the best of them.
"Maybe it's because we know Tom Hanks so well, he had this 50s baddie voice...Whatever way it was directed there was always kind of a shadow and then the door would crack open with a 'Elvis, it's me again, we're going to make so much money, you and I together forever...". That was a bit crazy," he said.
The Baz Luhrmann film, Elvis, which features Austin Butler in the title role has earned critical acclaim for its depiction of the turbulent life of the King.
As soon as Ryan got fully absorbed into the film, his emotions got the better of him.
He points to the romance between Elvis and Priscilla and a heartbreaking late-career rendition of 'Unchained Melody' as the moments when tears threaten to spill.
"Then it picked up and it got better and better and better. Once it got to the 1968 comeback and he's wearing the leather, the hair and he's on the cusp of complete disaster... then tragedy of course towards the end.
"Then it gets to the end and honest to God I actually had tears, I couldn't believe it. I was totally sucked in, man tears obviously. I wasn't bawling crying but... human tears of course. Really very moved by it in the end. Loved it, highly recommend the Elvis film," he said.
