Ryan Tubridy admits meeting his idol Paul McCartney was 'embarrassing'

The Late Late Show presenter Ryan Tubridy has admitted he was a 'gibbering wreck' when he met his idol Paul McCartney.

Ryan was reminded of the incident on Thursday as Paul was due to celebrate his 78th birthday.

He spoke about it on his RTÉ Radio One show.

He said: "It's Paul McCartney's birthday today he's 78. I don't know if you know but I am a fan of Paul McCartney's.

"Probably one of my most embarrassing encounters with a famous person was meeting him, which I did.

"I had a chicken sandwich for lunch and didn't have a chance then so the picture's ruined then by that fact."

"Got a picture with him thanks to John Clarke former head of 2fm who had the camera and McCartney did not want the picture taken but I insisted.

"The picture itself is an embarrassment, it's a stain on my character which I have at home but I don't put it up because it's so awful. "

Ryan joked to listeners that he might share it to help celebrate Paul's birthday.

He said: "I may share it on Instagram later on because I feel like I should publicly accept my shame and it might help take it away but I was star struck and I was reduced to a gibbering wreck when I met the man.

"I'm not proud of that moment but I just can't help myself."

Ryan was supposed to see McCartney in concert but it was sadly cancelled due to the coronavirus.

He was supposed to see McCartney live but due to the covid-19 outbreak had to settle for an at-home youtube concert. (PA)

It didn't stop him from having a good time though as he brought the music to him, hosting a gig in his kitchen.

He explained: "I had a concert in the kitchen, I don't know if you've heard of this because I hadn't until I just made it up in my head.

"I was meant to be going to see Paul McCartney for my tenth time when I was off and rather than go and see him, he came to see me.

"By that I mean I found an old concert, put it up on YouTube and ordered in a few drinks and got stuck into it. Essentially a concert in the kitchen.

"And that was one of the great nights off since I was last talking to you."
