Ryan Thomas to host free family roadshow at Gateshead's Saltwell Park

Ryan Thomas will descend on Gateshead this week to host a free family roadshow at one of the borough's most famous parks.

Ryan first shot to TV fame in the mid-00s as Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street, a role which saw him watched by millions of viewers numerous times a week for over a decade. In 2018 he appeared in the final series of Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5, with his time in the house shrouded in controversy, thanks to false allegations made against him by housemate Roxanne Pallett.

Roxanne's accusation that Ryan had punched her sparked uproar from viewers at home and left Ryan massively upset as other stars believed her. Some justice was done when Ryan went onto win the show and he was in a different reality TV competition altogether earlier this year, when he was one of the celeb athletes in ITV's re-boot of The Games, the sporting show which started life on Channel 4 at the same time Ryan was making it big in Corrie.

And Ryan will take on a very different role on Monday, August 8, when he will be the star guest host at the Fun Maths Activities roadshow at Saltwell Park in Gateshead. The event will run from 11am to 3pm and feature activities for all the family, with Ryan getting in on the craft and and games action.

Councillor John Adams, Chair of Governors at Gateshead Learning and Skills and qualified maths teacher, said: "We're always keen to make learning enjoyable and fun. These roadshows are a great way to find out more about the maths courses on offer and to talk to our Multiply Champions about the help that is available. You'll also be able to challenge some well-known celebrities and pitch your maths skills against them."

The Family Roadshows kicked off in Trinity Square last week, with an appearance from Johnny Ball.
