Ryan Thomas injured in freak accident just days before mammoth charity walk

Ryan Thomas told fans that he's gutted after suffering an injury a week before he embarks on a mammoth charity challenge.

The former Coronation Street star was hurt in a freak accident as he prepares to walk 10 marathons in 10 days on Monday May 10 for the charity CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably.

Ryan, 36, will walk all the way from Buckingham Palace to his home city, Manchester.

The actor told fans 'this has not been my week' after he suffered food poisoning and then tripped over a kettlebell at the gym.

Despite his injury the star has vowed to do everything he can to continue with his mission to mark Mental Health Awareness Week after learning shocking statistics about male suicide rates.

He told fans that he's not backing out of his special 262 mile challenge.

Sharing a photo of himself looking fed-up with his ankle up he told his Instagram followers: "This has not been my week!!

"Started off with food poisoning, just got myself fighting fit ready to attack the week before my challenge and this happens something as stupid as tripping over a kettle bell in the gym causing a sprained ankle.

"If it wasn’t for my charity walk this wouldn’t be an issue but I’m doing 26 miles a day for 10 days next Monday, need my ankles more than ever right now! I’m absolutely gutted!!

"I will do everything in power to fix this as I’m not backing out!"

Ryan was devastated when a much-loved friend took his own life during lockdown.

He says he will now do anything he can “to save even one life" following the tragedy.

Ryan, who has a one-year-old son Roman with his fiancee Lucy Mecklenburgh and a daughter Scarlett, 12, with his ex partner Tina O’Brien, has been flooded with messages of support about the mission.

Ryan shared videos of himself being treated by a physiotherapist, and he updated fans with some positive news.

"Three to four days he says I'll be back walking," he wrote with a thumbs-up and a photo of himself cuddling Roman with his ankle strapped up.

Well-wishers rushed to send 'healing vibes' to Ryan and his brother Scott told him: "Positivity will get you through my brother! Put those good vibes into the universe."

Ryan, who played Jason Grimshaw in Corrie until 2016, was cheered up by a family get-together at The Ivy restaurant in Manchester, and he shared some snaps on his social media including one of his adorable son wearing a mini designer Ralph Lauren jumper and a pair of sunglasses.
