Ryan ten Doeschate joins Team India in Sri Lanka as assistant coach in Gautam Gambhir's suppport staff

Former Netherlands international Ryan ten Doeschate has joined Team India in Sri Lanka as an assistant in head coach Gautam Gambhir's support staff.

The Dutchman was pictured during India's training session in Pallekele ahead of the first T20I against the hosts on July 27.

Doeschate, who was part of the coaching staff at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with Gambhir as the team's mentor earlier this year in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has also played for the Kolkata franchise under Gambhir's captaincy.

Another notable appointment has been that of Abhishek Nayar, who was also part of the KKR's team of coaches. Nayar has also joined as assistant coach.

According to an earlier Cricbuzz report, former South African pacer Morne Morkel is a strong contender for the position of bowling coach, having collaborated with Gambhir when the former India opener mentored the Lucknow Super Giants for two years.

Also, as per the report, T Dilip will continue as the fielding coach.

The three-match T20I series will be played in Pallekele, after which focus will shift to three ODIs scheduled to be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

While Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in T20Is, Rohit Sharma will continue to captain in the ODIs.
