Ryan Tannehill named Titans starting quarterback

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been named the starting quarterback of the Tennessee Titans.

With the move, Marcus Mariota becomes the team’s backup.

The news was originally reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport via Twitter on Tuesday evening.

Tannehill looked serviceable in the team’s 16-0 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, when Mariota was benched in the third quarter.

Tannehill finished the contest 13-of-16 passing for 144 yards with one interception.

On the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, the writing is now on the wall for an inconsistent Mariota.

The Titans will face the Los Angeles Chargers next with the new signal-caller.
