Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon is set to start for England Under-21s when they play Germany on Tuesday in an acid test of their prospects at this summer’s European Championship.

England face Germany at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth and manager Aidy Boothroyd is set to shuffle his pack for the game.

He is likely to include several players who did not start the 1-1 draw with Poland last Thursday.

Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters and Brentford centre-back Ezri Konsa could also start.

Germany won the European Championship in Poland two years ago and they are among the favourites to lift the trophy in Italy and San Marino this summer.

Leicester midfielder James Maddison will play tonight and he said: “These types of games are good preparation, you get to see what we need to improve on.

“Germany will have a lot of quality and they will be there in the summer. Going into the summer and the Euros you want as many players getting as many minutes as possible and getting as many combinations across the pitch.”

Germany are managed by Stefan Kuntz, who scored against England in the Euro 96 semi-final at Wembley. The Germany squad he named is vastly more experienced than England’s, who have half the amount of starts in their respective top divisions.

Boothroyd said: “It is difficult. I would like them all to be playing regularly. We have got some that do, some that do not. We have got to decide: is it better for them to be on loan in the Championship or training with Premier League clubs?”
