Liverpool were interested in signing Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham in 2017 before his move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Jurgen Klopp mulled over a move for the player only to cool his interest and instead turn to Andy Robertson from Hull City.
Then 17, he was identified by Klopp and his recruitment team as a player who could eventually become first choice left-back at Anfield.

The ECHO learned at the time Liverpool doubted the youngster’s commitment to a move to Merseyside, and subsequently withdrew their interest.
But Sessegnon has since spoken of his love for Liverpool and growing up idolising Reds great Steven Gerrard.
The 18-year-old England under-21 international was selected to start against the Reds on Sunday in a surprise move from Tottenham manager Antonio Conte.
He had not previously featured from the beginning of a Premier League game in two years.
Speaking on the third episode of BT Sport's What I Wore series in 2019, Sessegnon said: "I remember watching videos of Gerrard number 17, there was one goal I remember that he scored against Everton at Goodison Park (in 2001/02).
"It was a screamer, a right-footed shot. That's why I remember this kit."
Asked if he had a favourite Liverpool kit, Sessegnon added: "Yeah, I did. It was this one (the 2008/09 kit). Where did I wear it? Near my house to play football.
"I always supported Liverpool so my dad bought me the Gerrard top, he was my favourite player."
