Ryan Reynolds snubs star-studded Hollywood Met Gala to attend Wrexham trophy parade instead

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney look set to snub Monday night's Met Gala in New York in favour of celebrating Wrexham's historic return to the EFL.

The Reds are due to host an open top bus parade through the city on Tuesday, after sealing the National League title with a historic tally of 111 points.

Phil Parkinson's men cemented their status as champions with a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood at the Racecourse last weekend, and signed off a memorable campaign with a 1-1 draw at Torquay United on the final day.

Now, the team are set continue what promises to be an epic party this week, and it seems the club's co-owners will be there for the ride, having previously confirmed they were to miss out on the celebrity-swollen bash in the States.

Speaking to Access Hollywood at a screening of Welcome to Wrexham in Los Angeles, the pair were asked what they were planning instead, with Reynolds replying: "We'll be in the UK. We have Wrexham business to deal with."

It's a big statement from the Deadpool star, who alongside wife Blake Lively, has been a keen attendee of the event, which attracts some of the biggest stars in the world.

Indeed, multiple articles have been written in the US press since it was revealed the couple won't be there after hosting the event last year. It appears on this occasion, the lure of party in north Wales is just too much to ignore.

Asked specifically on Wrexham's incredible season, Reynolds added: "I'm still a little, to be totally frank, speechless about it. So many things had to go right that involved dumb luck in addition to obviously putting in a strong foundation.

A lot of things went right. Things we never expected. Like another team being incredible this entire season, which created such a tension in not just Wrexham but globally for everyone watching Wrexham. It's been a pretty remarkable journey."

The Canadian was also asked on what his wife made of it all, having previously suggested Lively wasn't entirely sold on the idea of buying the club.

"I was just trash talking," he laughed "She was always on board. There are other things she objected to but that wasn't one of them.

"Even a fifth tier Welsh football club, one that's the third oldest in the world. I don't think you buy something like that impulsively with a friend.

"So she was on board."
