Ryan Reynolds reveals whether he is behind new Hollywood-style Wrexham sign

Ryan Reynolds has revealed whether he is behind a new Hollywood-style sign which has been erected in Wrexham.

The sign appeared days ago on the iconic Rhostyllen slag heap near the A483 leading into the town and has attracted visitors ever since.

Speculation was mounting as to whether Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, owners of Wrexham AFC, were behind the sign ahead of the start of the National League on Saturday, NorthWalesLive reports.

In a tweet, Deadpool star Mr Reynolds appeared to pour cold water on that suggestion, but said he wished he'd come up with the idea.

He wrote on Twitter: "I wish I’d thought of that. But if I were to really dig into it, I wish I wasn’t someone who wished they’d thought of that."

Hundreds of people have already flocked to the site to take photos.

The sign has already attracted attention on social media, with one fan referring to it as "such a good thing to have".

Another said: "So Wrexham is really running with the Hollywood theme. This has just appeared. Love it."

From discussions on radio to breakfast TV news and interest across the world, Wrexham is the town on everybody's lips at the moment thanks to the huge sign.

Mr Reynolds and Mr McElhenney plan to make a documentary about their takeover of the town's club, but have not yet been able to visit the area due to Covid restrictions.

Mark Pritchard, leader of Wrexham County Borough Council, whose ward the sign sits in, said it was great news for the area - but he had no idea who had erected it either.

He said: "I think it is fantastic publicity for Wrexham and for the rest of the region.

"We have had so much interest from across the world with people contacting me about it. I can assure you the council is not part of this and I don't know who has erected it.

"It has really put Wrexham on the map. But we must not forget what the bank represents, which is the mining heritage of the area and how Wrexham was built on mines like Bersham, Hafod and Gresford."
