Ryan Reynolds reveals mental health battle as Hugh Jackman races to support him

Ryan Reynolds has opened up about his battle with anxiety for Mental Health Awareness month.

The Deadpool star took to his Instagram to tell his followers about the struggles faces and his tendencies to "overthink and overwork".

"May is almost over," the 44-year-old began his honest post. "It's also Mental Health Awareness month. Which brings me to this.

"One of the reasons I'm posting this so late is I overschedule myself and important things slip. And one of the reasons I overschedule myself is my lifelong pal, anxiety."

The Proposal actor continued: "I know I'm not alone and more importantly, to all those like me who overschedule, overthink, overwork, over-worry and over-everything, please know you're not alone," he told his followers.

The actor said he hoped to open up a conversation to try and help other people going through a similarly difficult time.

"We don't talk enough about mental health and don't do enough to destigmatise talking about it. But, as with this post, better late than never, I hope..," he finished his message.

Ryan's close pal and Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman was among the first to take to the comment section to praise the star for his honesty.

Ryan shared his story on social media (vancityreynolds/Instagram)

"Mate - your honesty is not only brave but, I'm positive will help countless others who struggle with anxiety too. Good on you!" he wrote.

Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard left a heart emoji on his post.

While Kerry Washington commented: "Thank you for this," along with the praying hands emoji.

Ryan previously discussed the extent of his anxiety back in 2018.

"I have anxiety, I've always had anxiety," he told the New York Times.

"Both in the lighthearted 'I'm anxious about this' kind of thing, and I've been to the depths of the darker end of the spectrum, which is not fun."
