Ryan Reynolds reveals his 'potentially life saving' moment after losing bet

Ryan Reynolds has candidly discussed how losing a bet could have potentially saved his life.

The Hollywood star, 45, revealed he had a medical scare after undergoing his first colonoscopy - a procedure he only had done after losing a bet to co-chairman of Wrexham AFC and fellow actor Rob McElhenney.

The Free Guy actor bet Rob that he wouldn't be able to learn any Welsh phrases and said he would film himself getting the procedure if he could. Thankfully for Ryan's health, he lost the bet and had to undergo the examination.

It led to Ryan's doctors discovering he had a polyp on his colon, something they revealed on a video uploaded to his Instagram.

Ryan captioned the clip: "I made a bet with @robmcelhenney. I lost. But it still paid off. Thank you to @LeadFromBehind @DrLaPook & @nyulangone."

It begins by Ryan and Rob explaining - in Welsh too - the background of the bet before the Deadpool star heads to the hospital. He describes the importance of the procedure and in a voice over as he preps for his first colonoscopy and the doctor talks him through what is going to happen.

Dr Lapook then told the celeb: "You did such a good prep that I was able to find an extremely subtle polyp that was on the right side of your colon. This was potentially life-saving for you. I'm not kidding. I'm not being overly dramatic.

"This is exactly why you do this. You had no symptoms."

The doctor then shows what was found and reveals he has removed it, telling the camera it allowed them to "interrupt" the process which could have ended up as a cancer scare.

Ryan described the procedure and prep as "painless" but instead joked that the "discomfort of filming and sharing the process was the hardest part".

His video upload was met by an array of positive messages and praise in the comments section. Among those sending him the thumbs up was Gal Gadot, who wrote: "Amazing Ryan," followed by a love heart emoji.

Katie Couric also penned: "Go Ryan! (Wait! You already did!) thank you for spreading the word! Next time I’m asking for Aviation Gin in my IV."

And Bianca Gonzalez said: "Thank you for using your power to share such an important message." Another user also gushed: "Men turning preventative care into a fun competitive sport we love to see it!!"
