Ryan Reynolds response to Met Gala question makes passion for Wrexham crystal clear

Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, have opted to skip the Met Gala this year, but the Wrexham owner doesn't seem to be too upset about missing out.

The Deadpool actor and Lively are often seen at the prestigious invite-only event, but announced over the weekend that they wouldn't be attending. Instead of rubbing shoulders with Hollywood's elite, Reynolds will instead be in Wales presumably downing pints with thousands of Wrexham fans.

After winning the National League with a record 111 points, the newly-promoted side will hold a trophy presentation in the town centre on Tuesday to parade the trophy on an open top bus. When asked why he wouldn't be attending the Met, Reynolds simply responded: "We'll be in the UK. We have Wrexham business to deal with."

During the 'Welcome to Wrexham' documentary, Reynolds hints that Lively may not have been 100% behind his purchase of the team. The actor completed the takeover in 2021 with 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' creator and actor Rob McElhenney.

However, speaking at a red carpet event promoting the documentary, Reynolds clarified: "Oh I was just trash-talking. She was always on board. There are other things she might object to but that isn't one of them.

"I don't think you buy a fifth-tier Welsh football club, still that one is pretty major being the third-oldest in the world, I don't think you buy something like that impulsively with a friend."

McElhenney also won't be attending the event, as he added: "Monday night we'll be on a plane."

The two also took the time to once again praise Notts County, who broke the National League points record themselves, only to end up in the play-offs. Reynolds said: "A lot of things went right. Things we never expected. Like another team being incredible this entire season, which created such a tension in not just Wrexham but globally for everyone watching Wrexham. It's been a pretty remarkable journey."

Lively had already confirmed she and Reynolds wouldn't be attending the event in Los Angeles, saying on Friday: "You will not [see her on the red carpet], but I will be watching. I'll be wearing [the 2022 outfit] on my couch on Monday."
