He may play Marvel’s most foul-mouthed and ethically challenged hero.
But it turns out Hollywood’s Ryan Reynolds buying Wrexham FC wasn’t just about football....but using his powers for good.
Because now Ryan plans to rescue the whole Welsh town.
It’s a mission which may not have attracted the Avengers, but Deadpool is on the case.
Dad-of-three Ryan, who bought the fan-owned club last autumn, says: “What I found interesting about this type of football team is there are inextricably linked with community. So when the football team is suffering, so is the community.
“And when the community is suffering so is the football team.

“So if you can find a way to interconnect these two and raise them both up simultaneously, it’s an amazing and profound effect and a win win for everybody. “
His plan comes as he and co-owner, Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, have begun a two-year documentary about their attempt to turn the National League team, the world’s third oldest professional side, into a “global force”.
And Ryan, 44, knows more about turning the tables than Wrexham FC.
His career low came when he played that other superhero in the 2011’s widely-panned Green Lantern.
Speaking on Jason Bateman and Will Arnett’s SmartLess podcast, Ryan recalls an awkward encounter with its third host, Will and Grace star and co-host Sean Hayes.
They had bumped into each other as Sean was on the way to see Green Lantern in the cinema.
“I said, ‘Don’t do it! Save yourself the tickets – I will hand you $12 and free popcorn’,” laughs Ryan. “At the time it really hurt. I felt like I let people down.”

So how did all this enlightenment come to Mr Deadpool? “By grinding up 45 self help books and snorting it like the biggest line of coke you’ve ever seen,” he jokes. “My meditation technique is to make a silent... scream.”
Let’s hope he’ll soon hear cheering from the terraces instead.
