Actor Ryan Reynolds has made a surprise appearance as Deadpool at San Diego Comic Con.

In character, the 49-year-old asked for a role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday before Robert Downey Jr, who stars as Doctor Doom, told him it had already been filmed.

Appearing from the crowd, Reynolds said: “This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”

To which Downey Jr, surrounded by the rest of the film’s cast on stage, replied: “It’s in the can bro, look around you, did you bump your head?”

Reynolds, who wore a darker Deadpool outfit, added: “I see, so there’s no additional photography, overages, hot costs, maybe last-minute additions? Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi we’re leaving.”

The actor then dropped the microphone and left the San Diego venue’s Hall H.

Despite Deadpool not being listed to appear in the upcoming film, there have been a number of rumours that Reynolds’ character will have a role.

The film is a sequel to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and is the 39th movie in the MCU.

Marvel’s synopsis for the film reads: “Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday.

“Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

“This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in cinemas on December 18.
