Ryan Porteous tackle leaves Celtic captain Callum McGregor with nasty wound

Celtic captain Callum McGregor was left with two deep gashes in his leg after a wild challenge from Hibs defender Ryan Porteous.

The centre-back is seen as a potential rising star of the Scottish game, but has been criticised for his lack of discipline in the tackle.

Porteous returned to the Hibs starting XI on Wednesday night having served a suspension for his red card against Rangers.

That incident saw him fly over the ball with one leg and, while taking it with the other, clatter Joe Aribo.

And the Scotland youth international was guilty of a similar lunge against Celtic.

With the ball on the edge of the box he flew in on the greasy surface to try and win it, taking both the ball and McGregor.

Porteous was booked by referee Don Robertson and a free-kick awarded to Celtic.

And the forced of the challenge became apparent when images showed the Hoops captain with two deep gashes to the shin afterwards.

Celtic ran out comfortable 3-1 winners following a blistering first-half showing at Easter Road.

Goals from Anthony Ralston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kyogo Furuhashi left Hibs with far too much to do, despite Martin Boyle pulling one back.

It was Celtic 's first league victory on Leith in the league since 2014 and one that pulls them within two points of Rangers at the Premiership summit.
