Ryan Porteous' Rangers red could have been different under VAR and sending off had a hint of fortune – Hotline

Celtic finally ended their Premiership away day hoodoo but Ange Postecoglou ’s side still have some work to do to win over some of their fans.

The Hoops dug out a 2-1 victory at Aberdeen for their first travelling treat since February.

But Colin McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “This is the worst Celtic team in living memory and the people to blame are the board of directors, Ange, Kennedy and Strachan. The defence is an absolute shambles.”

Davd Bryce, Troon, said: “Celtic won however this cannot continue any longer, the system is absolutely dross. Thank goodness we have players of real quality in Kyogo, Jota, Hart and Cameron-Vickers.

“I also thought Starfelt had his best game in a Celtic jersey. But performance wise it was woeful yet again.”

Jim Frye, Stevenston, said: “The free flowing attacking football that Ange has brought to the club is pleasing on the eye and even more if the chances created are converted however a blind man can see that the problems lie in defence.

“A rigid back four is needed immediately, let’s get it right at the back or we will win nothing.”

Ian McKendrick emailed: “I can honestly see Hearts and Hibs being Rangers' strongest challengers this season.”

But Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, hit back and said: “A great three points for Celtic although not the best performance. It keeps the armchair brigade off their backs for couple off weeks. This team will get better.”

Meanwhile Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “I always wondered what it would take for Bobby Madden to book Scott Brown and now I know – not be in a Celtic strip!”

Speaking of big decisions, over to the Ryan Porteous red card at Ibrox as Rangers edged out 10 men Hibs.

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: “Would VAR have confirmed that Porteous’ tackle was a bad one?

“Or was it just fortuitous that Porteous was sent off when Hibs looked in control of the game?”

Oh well, but Alan Mcgaw, Alloa, said: “Well done Rangers, a deserved win in the end. Yes we struggled for a while but it just shows going a goal down to come back and win it’s usually harder to play against 10 men.

“The passion from Gerrard and the team at full time shows how much it meant to Rangers and the supporters.”

The scourge of racism won’t go away and John Scott, Grassmoor, had an honest message as he said: “Keith Jackson’s piece on Mark Walters brought back memories that shame us all.

“I, too, am guilty. As a teenager I took part in the chant directed at Celtic’s Indian player Paul Wilson and it makes me squirm in embarrassment today.

“More so given that decades later I now have members of my family I love dearly who are of Pakistani heritage.”

Lewis Doyle, Tipperary, said: “Rangers and Gerrard let Kamara down when they didn’t walk off the park when those school kids booed him. That would have put this disgusting behaviour from these future racists to be highlighted at the source.”

Terry Higgins, Polmont, said: “The racial abuse Kamara got in Prague was disgusting. But what about the sectarian bile that we have to listen to at our football games?

“It has nothing to do with football – just people living in the dark ages.”
