Ryan Murphy will direct and produce an adaptation of the acclaimed musical The Prom for Netflix, complete with a star-studded cast.
Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden and Ariana Grande will all appear in the adaptation along with Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells, Deadline reported on Tuesday.
The Prom, which began its Broadway run in 2018, tells the story of four down-on-their-luck theatre performers struggling for relevancy.
In search of a good cause to mend their public image, the actors travel to a fictional Indiana town, where a lesbian high school student has been barred from bringing her girlfriend to prom.
Murphy, who created or co-created shows such as Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story, is reportedly aiming for a release in time for the 2020 awards season.
He struck a landmark, five-year deal with Netflix for a reported $300m in February 2018.
The Prom scored six nominations at the 2019 Tony Awards in the Best Musical, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score categories.
