Ryan Moore, the clear leader in the race for the Flat jockeys’ championship, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for assessment of a possible neck injury after being unseated in the stalls before the final race on the card at Newmarket.
Moore appeared to hit the back of his neck on the stalls when Newton’s Law, his mount in the five-furlong Robinsons Mercedes-Benz Handicap, reared in the gates. The jockey was able to walk to a nearby ambulance but was then taken to hospital for examination.
“He’s just on his way to hospital,” Michael Prosser, Newmarket’s clerk of the course, said. “He had a fall but stood up and sought medical advice after complaining of neck pain and he’s gone to Addenbrooke’s for further assessment. As he’s had a fall, it is normal practice.”
Newton’s Law was withdrawn from the race but otherwise appeared unharmed by the incident.
Moore has a full book of seven rides at Newmarket on Friday including Integral, last year’s winner, in the Group One Falmouth Stakes.
