Ryan Moore, out of action since suffering a neck injury in a stalls accident at Newmarket’s July meeting, will return to action at Newmarket on Friday the Racing Post reported on Wednesday night. The three-times champion jockey will ride Cannock Chase in the Listed Sakhee Godolphin Stakes for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.
Earlier in the day, Moore rode the Sun Chariot Stakes fancy Integral for the handler as he took part in two lots of work for Stoute on the Racecourse Side gallop.
It was feared that Moore could miss the rest of the year following his fall from Newton’s Law in the final race on the opening day of the July meeting. There has been little detail revealed about the situation since the rider was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital but the jockey has been spotted doing gym work in recent weeks and the news he is back in action will come as welcome relief at the powerful Ballydoyle stables of Aidan O’Brien where he has taken over from the trainer’s son, Joseph, as the No1 jockey.
Ted Durcan, who rode work with Moore on Wednesday, said: “Ryan told me he’s in A1 nick. He looks pretty fit.”
The Racing Post’s Newmarket correspondent, David Milnes, told the At The Races channel that Moore also rode an unraced two-year-old for Stoute.
“I didn’t see [Integral] work, but I believe Ryan was back,” said Chris Richardson, managing director of Integral’s owners Cheveley Park Stud.
“The Sun Chariot is the plan, all being well. That’s been her target since her last run. We had a bit of an issue with a shoe and other niggly foot problems which have just taken time to get sorted out.
“We are OK again now and the filly is obviously back in good form. I think at her age she doesn’t like extremes. A bit of ease in the ground, as we saw last year, was to her liking in the Sun Chariot.”
