Ryan Moore may not race again in 2015, says Racing Post

Ryan Moore could be out of action for the rest of the year, the Racing Post has suggested. The three-times champion jockey, regarded by some as the finest Flat jockey in the world, sustained a neck injury almost a fortnight ago and the likely date of his return to action remains a matter for conjecture.

Moore’s most recent statement, issued last Friday, said: “I am recovering well. I really am fine. I just need to take it day by day, week by week. When you are talking about your neck, everybody starts to get very cautious. I realise that I have to give it the time, I have to be 100% before I can go back to riding.”

His mother had previously said that x-rays of his injury “didn’t show up anything of any concern”.

Now the Post asserts that “those closest to the rider believe he is steeling himself for a much longer absence than anticipated … It is understood the teams at Coolmore and at Sir Michael Stoute’s yard in Newmarket are coming to terms with the likelihood of being without their main man until 2016.”

No sources are quoted in the story and Moore has not responded to it.

Moore had been having an excellent season until his injury, setting a new modern record of nine wins during Royal Ascot, winning the 2,000 Guineas in England and Ireland and leading the jockeys’ title race.

He was hurt when his mount in the last race of a card at Newmarket reared up in the stalls, unseating the jockey, who hit his head and neck against the rear gates as he fell.
