Ryan Mason has sent a message to Tottenham Hotspur supporters after his role as interim manager reached its conclusion.
Mason was appointed as the caretaker boss following Jose Mourinho's sacking from Spurs last month, just days before the Carabao Cup final.
The former Tottenham midfielder had just one match in charge of the club before the final against Manchester City - where, in his first game, he guided the side to a 2-1 victory against Southampton.
However, against City in the final at Wembley, Aymeric Laporte scored a late header to give Pep Guardiola's team the trophy on the day and inflict the first defeat in Mason's short reign.
The 29-year-old then had five games before the end of the campaign, with full knowledge that Spurs were searching for a permanent manager behind the scenes.
Tottenham beat Sheffield United 4-0, lost to Leeds United 3-1, before a 2-0 win against Wolves. It was then a defeat to Aston Villa and three points on the final day against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Mason ended his short spell as Tottenham boss with four wins from his seven games in charge in all competitions.
Now, he has taken to Twitter to send the Spurs fans a message following his very short time as the club's manager.
The tweet read: "Enjoyed leading the team the last few weeks I couldn’t have asked for more from the group of players and we always felt the fans behind us.
"Thankyou for your support."
In regards to who the next manager will be, football.london understands that the club have decided on their top candidate, but there are some complications.
An agreement is yet to be reached with the unnamed manager's current club - which is understood to be a difficult task and one that may test Spurs' financial resolve.
Several managers have been linked with the vacancy, including Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, Belgium manager Roberto Martinez and Brighton's Graham Potter.
