Ryan Mason has confirmed that he is hopeful that Harry Kane will be fit to take to the pitch in Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Man City.
Sustaining another ankle injury on Friday night in the 2-2 draw at Everton, the striker was substituted off in the final few minutes and was walking gingerly when he left the stadium not long after.
Absent for tonight's game against Southampton after failing to train this week, all Tottenham fans will have their fingers crossed that the England captain will be fit to return as soon as possible.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, interim head coach Mason was quizzed about Kane's fitness and gave Spurs fans a glimmer of hope ahead of Sunday's final showdown.
"It’s difficult, we’re still not sure yet," said the 29-year-old. "We’re just treating it day-by-day, but the hope is he might be on the pitch at the end of the week.
"But at the moment, it’s a day-by-day thing."
With Jose Mourinho going rather defensive at Goodison Park last week, Mason changed things up for the visit of Southampton as he went with an attacking XI.
Lucas Moura and Giovani Lo Celso came back into the side, with Gareth Bale also handed a start after barely featuring under Mourinho recently.
When asked about his team selection against Saints, Mason added: "It was a little bit about the game-plan, how we wanted to approach the game, but it was also about how they trained as well.
"So much energy and so much quality, I felt and do feel that this is the right team to win the match tonight.
