Ryan Mason confirms key Tottenham player will miss Liverpool game as four others sidelined

Tottenham Hotspur acting head coach Ryan Mason has confirmed Hugo Lloris will not be available to feature in Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool.

The French goalkeeper was withdrawn at half time of Spurs' dismal 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United last Sunday after sustaining an injury and has not recovered in time for this weekend's trip to Anfield. Such news means ex-Southampton shot-stopper Fraser Forster is set to start between the sticks for the second game in succession.

Forster stood in for Lloris yesterday evening as Tottenham fought back from being two goals down at home to Manchester United to earn a share of the spoils courtesy of goals from Pedro Porro and Heung-min Son.

Issuing an update on the availability of his squad, Mason today told reporters: "Hugo won't be available for Sunday. The other injuries we assess day by day. The lads haven’t trained yet – they’ve just reported now – and we’re going to see how they’re feeling in terms of training this afternoon and tomorrow leading into the game.”

Elsewhere in Spurs' squad, defender Emerson Royal has been sidelined since the start of this month subsequenty given an expected return date of between four to six weeks. The Brazilian underwent surgery on a knee issue, though is now nearing a return to action. Midfield duo Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur remain sidelined, with the latter out for the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Wing-back Ryan Sessegnon remains a long-term absentee.
