Ryan Lindley to visit with Baker Mayfield’s college coach, Lincoln Riley

Baker Mayfield set the college football world on fire at Oklahoma. In coach Lincoln Riley’s aggressive version of the Air Raid passing offense, Mayfield performed so well he won the Heisman Trophy. Riley kept the magic going with Kyler Murray in 2018, producing two straight No. 1 overall picks in the NFL draft.

Hoping to tap into those impressive results, new Browns quarterbacks coach Ryan Lindley says he plans to visit with Riley at Oklahoma this summer. No date is set yet but Lindley appears quite set on picking Riley’s brain soon.

“Obviously the guy’s busy running a powerhouse college football program, so I’m sure it would be tough to try to fit into his schedule, but I’d love to,’’ Lindley said after Thursday’s OTA session in Berea. “Yeah, obviously, after this next week, we’ve got a little time off and hopefully we can do that. I’d still love to pick Lincoln’s brain and those guys out there in Norman.”

Aside from the offensive concepts, Lindley could also pick up on some more background on Mayfield. It’s a good show of ambition from Lindley, who is entering his first years as a QB coach after being the team’s RB coach following the midseason changes last year. Lindley was an NFL quarterback for four years and had some impressive success in his own right at San Diego State, but this is an indication he’s not willing to just rest on what he already knows.
