Ryan Kerrigan explains the evolution of his HBK sack celebration

As a dominant force on the Washington Redskins’ defensive line, it’s only right that Ryan Kerrigan has a flashy sack celebration.

If you haven’t seen it before, there is no doubt you will see it early on in the 2019 season.

Originally a quiet guy, Kerrigan explained to Gabe Henderson on The Rundown that it was his teammates that finally convinced him to celebrate a bit after his big plays.

“I hadn’t done anything for a sack my first few years, I just kind of get up and just hoot and holler, you know, celebrate with my teammates and what not,” Kerrigan said. “Then, my fourth year, [Will] Compton was like, ’You gotta do something man…you gotta do the HBK — the Shawn Michaels.'”

Kerrigan goes on to tell the story of his first time breaking out the celebration vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as the ensuing three sacks he picked up in that game. From there, it stuck as his celebration.

“After that, it just caught on like wildfire, my mentions were blowing up like crazy,” Kerrigan said. “It was crazy how quickly it became a thing.”

If things play out the way they’re looking, we will be seeing that celebration a lot this season as well.
