Ryan Kent transfer latest as Rangers face competition from Leeds United for Liverpool winger

Rangers are facing a fight to bring Ryan Kent back to Ibrox after Leeds United made a move for the Liverpool winger.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard is keen to land the 22-year-old on a new loan deal following an impressive campaign with the Light Blues last term.

But Championship side Leeds have joined the race for the highly-rated wide man, along with newly-promoted Aston Villa.

Liverpool would prefer to send the youngster back out on loan – but will listen to any permanent bids that come in.

Villa could be hamstrung if the Champions League winners insist on a temporary deal as English clubs are restricted to just two loans between sides in the same division while Leeds are also attempting to snap up £20m-rated former Gers target Harry Wilson.

Rangers have already added Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie to their squad, with Greg Stewart expected to follow, and are chasing several targets.

Gerrard has seen two bids of up to £600,000 for Oldham’s George Edmundson rejected and are considering meeting the Latics asking price of around £1m.

Meanwhile misfit striker Eduardo Herrera’s time at the club is coming to a close after he started pre-season training with Mexican outfit Necaxa.

The 30-year-old signed by former boss Pedro Caixinha in 2017 – managed just two goals in 24 appearances and spent the second half of last season on loan at the Liga MX side and is set to follow fellow flop Carlos Pena out the Ibrox door.
