Ryan Kent transfer latest as Rangers boss Steven Gerrard tells winger what he must do to seal Ibrox return

Steven Gerrard wants in-demand Liverpool winger Ryan Kent to show how much he craves a return to Rangers.

He’s desperate to get Kent back to Glasgow after a successful loan last season.

The 22-year-old still has three years remaining on his Anfield deal and will hook up with Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League winning squad for pre-season.

Ibrox gaffer Gerrard is confident Gers can strike a deal to get the fans favourite for another year after positive talks with the player.

But he now wants Kent to prove how determined he is to get back in a blue shirt.

From the team’s pre-season base in Portugal, Gerrard said: “I suppose the fans will be desperate for a Kent update.

“But it’s a complicated one because he is Liverpool’s player and they aren’t back yet.

“I’m sure Jurgen will want to see Ryan and where he’s at. We’ll go from there and we’ll respect Liverpool.

“But I can assure the fans we’re doing everything we can to try to get Ryan back. The key thing that people need to understand is that Ryan has got to want this.

“It’s all right the fans wanting him, the staff wanting him, myself wanting him. But it’s Ryan’s decision.

“He’s got to want Rangers, he has got to want to come and be successful at Ibrox.

“That is the question Ryan has got to ask himself.

“At the moment, I’ve got to be careful about what I say about him because he’s not our player.

“We loved having him here and we would love the chance to have him again because we think he can improve at Rangers.

“But the reality is that we have to wait for Ryan to make a decision and Liverpool have to think Rangers is the right place to continue his development.”
