Ryan Kent transfer latest as Rangers boss Steven Gerrard fires Leeds United warning

Steven Gerrard has warned Leeds that their opening offer for Ryan Kent was nowhere near the level needed to get the winger.

Leeds made a bid for the former Liverpool youngster, believed to be around £10million, but Rangers quickly rejected it because they want much more.

The Ibrox side paid £7m for Kent last summer and despite an injury hit first season, he scored vital goals against the likes of Braga and Celtic.

He's started the new season on good form with two goals in his first four games and Gerrard is desperate not to lose him.

The Scouser did not completely rule out the move, instead emphasising the level of Leeds' bid not being high enough - a reflection on the reality that every Rangers player has their price.

The riches of the English Premier League are always a draw for footballers but Kent is understood to be settled in Glasgow.

He forced a move to Rangers from Liverpool last summer after finally finding a permanent home following a series of loan spells in England and Germany.

And Gerrard said: "Ryan Kent is a player we admire very much and we have seen him develop.

"He is progressing very quickly and is a player we want to keep hold off. We very quickly rejected an opening bid that was nowhere near his valuation.

"We want to the player to stay here, as do the board. The fans love him also and Leeds will need to respect that, they need to think really hard if they want to come in again.

"I have spoken to Ryan and he is totally focused on the match tomorrow.

"We will always put up a tough fight to keep the top talent here at Rangers."

Defensive leader Connor Goldson also had his say on Leeds' move for the Ibrox winger and the big stopper admits he's a huge part of Gerrard's squad.

He said: "Ryan Kent has a lot of ability, it is not nice when he runs at you, even in training!

"You can see the benefit with a full pre-season behind him.

"He can still add numbers to his game but he is a massive asset to us and we want to keep Ryan Kent here."
