Ryan Kent makes Rangers goalscoring vow as he challenges teammates to match expectations

Rangers forward Ryan Kent is 20 games ahead of his progress at this time last year.

But the Ibrox attacker won’t be satisfied until he reaches double digits and leads his club to trophy success.

Kent has scored six goals in 23 appearances since his loan move from Liverpool was made permanent in a £7 million deal in the summer.

He has already scored as many goals as he did in his debut campaign for the Light Blues last time around, when he played in 43 matches.

The 23-year-old has also chipped in with some invaluable assists, including the goal for Joe Aribo at Hamilton Accies that eased their passage into the quarter final of the Scottish Cup.

Kent said: “I’ve scored the same at this point as I had in the whole of last season. If I can come away with double figures I’ll be happy, as long as I’m putting in the best performances possible.

“I’m not satisfied yet though and it’s important we build on our last two performances, where we’ve got back to where we left off before the winter break.

“We’ve had a chat as a group, which was important at the time, especially coming from the more experienced and senior players.

“They have been in these positions on many an occasion in their careers and it’s important for the whole team to get that info on board and know what’s required between now and the end of the season.”

Kent is the most expensive addition to Steven Gerrard’s squad, but has shrugged off his price tag as he bids to help Rangers secure only their second league win in their last seven visits to Kilmarnock.

He added: “There’s expectations on every player in this team, regardless of your price tag. Every time you step out on that pitch representing Rangers you are expected to deliver.

“Rugby Park is a difficult place to go, but if everyone turns up in the right mood and puts in the right performance then hopefully we can come away with a win.”
