Ryan Kent and the Rangers 'natural end' as Ibrox club urged to stop 'depending' on star by pundit

Ryan Kent's time at Rangers has come to a 'natural end' and the Ibrox club need to stop 'depending' on him.

That's the verdict of former Celtic defender and now pundit Mark Wilson as talk over the Light Blues attacker and his future rumbles on. English Premier League new boys Burnley are said to be keen on the former Liverpool man - who is yet to decide on his future at Ibrox either way with his contract in the final stages before it expires this summer.

Kent is one of a group of Rangers stars including Alfredo Morelos, Allan McGregor and Steven Davis and Ryan Jack that decisions need to be made over. Michael Beale has expressed his desire to retain the man the club bought from Liverpool for £7million alongside team-mate Jack as a new era at Ibrox kicks-off.

Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin arrived in January with the Light Blues boss keen to add at least five new faces this summer as Beale puts his own stamp on the club. But for Wilson, he reckons Kent's most consistent this season has been 'poorly' and reckons he needs a new challenge to reignite his career and stop Rangers' reliance on him. Vincent Kompany's side are said to have 'made their move' and it could present a chance to test himself in England's top flight.

He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "They have invested heavily in him. The transfer fee and what they have put into him in the years over the piece.

"He is most consistent this season at the level he is playing at - which is poorly - and his inconsistency comes when he has a show-stopping game, which is very, very rare. It used to be the other way about.

"If you are getting that from a player and you are not getting a decent return on what you expect from him, it probably is time to move on. There is no point in saying to him 'we will keep him and hope because we spent £7million' because where do you draw the line?

"It has came to a natural end. I think the player needs a refresh and something different to reignite his career, and I think Rangers need to stop depending on him.

"They just depend on him every week and it's obviously not working. Michael Beale has to put his own stamp on this team and that will come this summer."
