Ryan Jack has explained Derek McInnes' biggest asset as a manager - and how Rangers will benefit.
The former Ibrox midfielder played for the boss at Aberdeen and knows how well equipped the 54-year-old is for the task at hand to haul the club back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
McInnes was minutes away from an unforgettable title win with Hearts last season which certainly boosted his chances of landing the Gers job when Danny Rohl looked to move on.
But Jack is adamant McInnes earned the role and will bring leadership to Ibrox and communication skills to his squad that are unmatched.
“The main thing that always stood out for me was Del’s communication skills," Jack told the Daily Record. "He was always very clear when he addressed the squad, be it a team meeting before a game or at half-time. Del had this ability to cut to the heart of the matter and get his point across.
“He was always pulling lads in for honest chats. That’s his biggest thing, he’s a leader. He’s not going to get too caught up on the modern day things we hear about like being a coach who has a style or a philosophy.
“Derek’s more of a figurehead, someone who can bring all the departments together and get us all pushing in the same direction.
“I’m sure when he goes in to the club, straight away he’ll get that team spirit as high as it’s ever been and that’ll be their starting point.
“When he came into Aberdeen, he made me captain when I was only 22. At the time and I think I had maybe a year left on my deal and wasn’t sure what was happening with my future at the club and whether I was staying or leaving.
“He called me in and said, ‘Look, I want to build a team around you, you’re going to be my main player, I want to make you the captain. I was so young, so making me captain of a club the size of Aberdeen aged 22 was a big deal. It made me feel 10 feet tall.
“It wasn’t just me who felt like that. He came in right away and had honest conversations with everybody, one on one.
“He battered his messaging into us day in, day out and eventually everyone came together and that’s what led to us winning the League Cup in his first season.”
