Ryan Jack Rangers return latest as Steven Gerrard provides injury update

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has revealed Ryan Jack is still a bit away from returning to his squad but has had a more 'positive' week.

The midfielder hasn't played since February and underwent surgery on a continuing calf problem towards the end of the season, with the hope he would be available for the start of the new campaign.

It meant he missed Scotland's Euro 2020 campaign and he's still not quite ready to return to the first team squad but has been training with the team.

But there's better news on the fitness of Nnamdi Ofoborh who has struggled with a heart issue that was flagged up during his medical.

He is yet to pull on a Rangers shirt but Gerrard has revealed things are getting better and the club should have a date for his return in the next week, while also confirming Ianis Hagi isn't suffering from any symptoms of Covid-19 after testing positive.

He said: “We are in decent shape. Obviously Ianis Hagi is not available. Ryan Jack has had a positive week but isn’t available just yet.

“Nnamdi Ofoborh had a positive week and we should know more on his return in six to seven days.

“I spoke to Ianis and he didn’t have any symptoms which is good news. I will catch up with him again today.”

Gerrard himself was someone who had to isolate due to Covid-19 and missed games against Alashkert and Celtic.

And he admits it was tough for him to be sitting at home but was delighted with how the squad and Michael Beale and Gary McAllister responded.

He said: “I am here to manage from the sidelines so I don’t want to experience it again.

“What made me so proud was how we all stuck together when we were tested.

“Michael and Gary stepped forward tremendously well and the players followed them.”
