Ryan Jack marvels at Rangers midfield duo as he reveals secret to incredible clean sheet record

Ryan Jack has admitted Rangers' strength in depth is driving up the standards at the club as he marvels at the professionalism of veterans Steven Davis and Scott Arfield.

The Ibrox club started with five changes from their draw with Benfica as they crushed Hamilton 8-0 at Ibrox yesterday.

Another five switches were made during the game as Steven Gerrard looked to shuffle his pack and retain freshness amongst his squad.

Jack admits there's an understanding that given the schedule, not everyone can play in each match - making a big squad even more important and relentless standards at training essential.

And that's where the unyielding commitment of 32-year-old Arfield and 35-year-old Davis stand as a brilliant example to their teammates.

He told Rangers TV: “We have strength in depth this season and there is competition for places and that’s the way it should be at a club like Rangers.

“If we want to be successful then everyone is going to have to play their part and step up over the course of the season.

“Training is always a high standard and you have to be at it every day. If you train with those standards, then you take that into games. “I have always had that from a young age and every time I train I give it my best.

“You watch the likes of Steven Davis and Scott Arfield and see how they live their lives every day. They are top professionals.

"It is a great time for me in my career where I am playing alongside international players.

“Davo and Scotty have been excellent, Glen Kamara is an international for Finland and at the top of his game.

“Joe Aribo was flying before he picked up his injury but that competition will help us going forward.

“There is a lot of football to be played and a lot of big games coming up.”

Rangers have now played 14 league games and racked up in incredible 12 clean sheets.

They have only conceded three goals with Hibs netting twice at Easter Road and George Edmundson unwittingly hitting the net with a late own goal against Motherwell.

And Jack admits it was hard work in pre-season that has put strong defensive foundations in to the team.

He sadi: “The whole team have bought into what we are trying to do and it is paying off for us.

“In pre-season you get the time to put in the real training and now we are into the season it is Thursday and Sunday games along with other midweek games.

“It is short and sharp and you don’t always get time to focus on tactical stuff.

“Pre-season gave us that base to work on things tactically, but we have been working on it for the last two years or so.

“It is good to see it paying off for us all.”
