Ryan Jack injury blow as Rangers midfielder faces race to return in time for Celtic clash

Steven Gerrard says Ryan Jack is facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his calf in Rangers' victory over Dundee United.

The midfielder limped off in the first half of the 4-0 victory at Ibrox, and Gerrard says scan results have revealed a problem in the muscle.

Jack will miss a few weeks "at least" although Gerrard says it's difficult to pinpoint exactly when he could return.

Rangers face a busy schedule before the next international break with league matches against Hibs, Motherwell and Ross County, along with Europa League qualifiers.

They then face Celtic at Parkhead in the first league match after the break – on October 17.

Gerrard said: "Jacko will be missing for a few weeks, at least. I think with Jacko we need to take it day-by-day, but we have had confirmation that he has a calf problem.

"He'll definitely be missing in the short term. It's difficult to say whether it will be two, three, four weeks at the moment. But he'll certainly miss a couple of weeks."

Brandon Barker also limped off during the victory, and he'll be out of action for a spell.

Gerrard added: "Barker is similar on his scan. Obviously on a different muscle, the hamstring. He'll be missing in the short term as well."

In more positive news for Rangers fans, the Ibrox boss confirmed that Alfredo Morelos has made a quick recovery from the weekend, and is even in contention to face Lincoln Red Imps tomorrow.

He said: "In terms of his fitness he is available. He trained with the group. He was with the physio yesterday to just clear a few things, to test it out.

"I've just spoken to him after training and he's fine and available."
