Ryan Jack has been ruled out for Rangers' second leg showdown against Slavia Prague.
The Premiership champions welcome Jindrich Trpisovsky's side for the return leg of their Europa League last 16 tie after a 1-1 draw in Prague last week.
Jack was left out of the squad for that one, with Gerrard indicating he could have played but that the club had opted not to risk him.
The midfielder has a recurring knee problem that has to be managed, and while he's been included in the Scotland squad he won't be fit to face Slavia on Thursday.
Gerrard said: "I had a chat with Steve Clarke and obviously that will remain private.
"We've been in touch over Ryan and a few other players for some time now but I'm not going to divulge what gets said in the conversation. I don't think that's fair or respectful.
"Ryan won't be involved tomorrow night.
"We will make a decision on the weekend when we need to but he is ruled out for tomorrow's game."
Rangers club have the advantage of an away goal but Gerrard feels the tie is still very much in the balance against the Czech champions.
He explained: "We are ready for another tough game against a fantastic, well-organised team.
It will be a great game and a tough match we are really looking forward to.
"We realised it was a very tough place to go, we have set up the tie well for Ibrox and given ourselves a real good opportunity, having said that we will have to perform much better to get through.
"It is a great 50/50 tie."
