Ryan Hardie tipped for Scotland as Rangers youth product told Steve Clarke will be 'monitoring and watching'

Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has claimed former Rangers striker Ryan Hardie is bound to receive a call-up to the Scotland squad.

Hardie has scored 10 goals in just 15 matches so far for Plymouth in League One this season as the Rangers academy graduate hits top form.

The 24-year-old has been capped at U21 level for Scotland but calls for his inclusion at senior level have been few and far between.

After loan spells at Livingston, Hardie joined Blackpool from Rangers in 2019, following 17 appearances for the Ibrox club. He has been with Plymouth since January 2020.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke called upon Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams and Kevin Nisbet in the forward department for this month's World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Lowe has given Hardie his backing by stating he can step up for the national team - and Clarke is monitoring his progress too.

"I'm not sitting here telling Steve Clarke what to do by any stretch of the imagination, but you've got a leading goalscorer in the country at the moment and he's your player," Lowe told the BBC.

"I'm sure Steve's monitoring him and watching him, because who wouldn't?"

Hardie himself is focused on his form at club level - but the former Rangers striker admits he has international ambition.

"Internationals are where you want to be as a football player, but as I said to him - we had a chat about it - I've only scored 10 goals, it's only a start," added Hardie.

"I want to go and get 20 and see where that takes me.

"I don't want to stop at 10 and say I should be in it, I want to just keep going and see where it takes me."
