Ryan Griffin is Jets Wire’s Player of the Game vs. Jaguars

The tight end position has gone back to its unproductive ways this season, but Ryan Griffin had something to say about that in the Jets’ 29-15 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.

Griffin led the offense with four catches for 66 yards, two touchdowns and a successful two-point conversion attempt. For his efforts, Griffin is Jets Wire’s Player of the Game for Week 8 of the regular season.

The 29-year-old tight end was an early training camp pickup after the Jets learned of Chris Herndon’s four-game suspension. The Jets haven’t received much from Griffin before Sunday’s contest, as he only had nine catches for 46 yards and a touchdown entering the game.

Most of that isn’t Griffin’s fault, as Sam Darnold missed three games due to mononucleosis and Luke Falk had to start in his place. In the games with Falk at quarterback, Griffin had two catches for seven yards.

Griffin’s playing time could be cut soon, as Herndon is working his way back from a hamstring injury. Herndon was limited in practice this past week and needs to practice a full week before he can step foot in a real game.

Obviously, Griffin isn’t the long-term answer at tight end with Herndon on the roster, but he’s done what he can given the circumstances with the Jets offense this season.
