Ryan Gravenberch directly addresses Liverpool interest and admits transfer 'preference'

Ryan Gravenberch admits at glancing his eye over rumours he could sign for Liverpool this summer.

With their transfer plans in full swing, the Reds consider Gravenberch as a potential follow-up option to first major signing Alexis Mac Allister as they aim to revamp their midfield before next season. However, while the Netherlands international is on their shortlist, there are complications when it comes to a would-be move.

Gravenberch, 21, only signed for Bayern Munich on a free transfer 12 months ago. His debut season might not have gone to plan exactly - with under 1,000 minutes played in all competitions and only three Bundesliga starts - but he could yet get the exposure his talent warrants now Thomas Tuchel has been appointed to the Bayern dugout.

As with anyone, though, there are several moving parts at play. As such, Liverpool will be hoping the balance finally tips in their favour, while Gravenberch himself might not need much convincing.

Well acquainted to Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo through international duty, the box-to-box midfielder is poised to represent his country - albeit at U21 level - during the upcoming European Championships. After his adventure in Romania and Georgia, the 21-year-old will seemingly get down to business.

During a pre-tournament chat with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, he said: "I've read that too." Of course, what he was referring to was mooted interest from Liverpool.

Gravenberch, who started his career by progressing through the famed Ajax system, added: "It could be that there are plans with me. I haven't really spoken to the coach about that yet. That will come after the Euros when I'm back from Georgia and Romania, then we will see how things are.

"I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern Munich, otherwise at a club where I play 100 per cent. That's where my preference lies, because I don't want to have another year like the one I've had now. One such season is good. I learned a lot, but I want to play football."

A clear message to Bayern and, presumably, Liverpool then. If anyone wants Gravenberch in their plans, they must go all-in and that should, ultimately, benefit the Reds in their ongoing midfield transfer pursuit.
