Ryan Gosling, known for his role in First Man, is set to star in the upcoming film Project Hail Mary, based on a book by Andy Weir, the author of The Martian. The film is scheduled for release on March 20, 2026, with Gosling also serving as a producer alongside a team of industry professionals.

Project Hail Mary follows the story of Ryland Grace, a former school teacher turned astronaut who wakes up on a space station with no memory of his mission. As he pieces together his purpose - to reverse the impact of a space event that has triggered an Ice Age on Earth - Grace must rely on his scientific knowledge and resourcefulness to save the planet.

The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for their work on 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie. Weir's deal with MGM for the adaptation of Project Hail Mary was secured well before the book's release, highlighting the success of The Martian.

In The Martian, another of Weir's works, the narrative revolves around an astronaut stranded on Mars and his struggle for survival. The film adaptation, directed by Ridley Scott, received critical acclaim and featured a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Jeff Daniels.

Weir's literary success extends to his novel Artemis, which is also in the process of being adapted for the screen by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Artemis is set in a futuristic city on the Moon and follows the adventures of a porter caught in a conspiracy for control.

Ryan Gosling's return to space-themed films after First Man indicates his continued interest in exploring the unknown realms of the cosmos. With Project Hail Mary poised to be another thrilling space adventure, audiences can anticipate a captivating journey into the depths of outer space.
