Ryan Gosling's dramatic transformation into Ken Doll for Barbie film role stuns

Ryan Gosling sent the internet wild on Wednesday, as the first images from the actor's appearance in the upcoming live-action Barbie movie were released online.

Sporting bright blond and flashing his abs in a denim vest - no shirt - the Canadian star looks unrecognisable after being transformed into his character Ken.

In the now-viral snap, Ryan, 41, cooly leans on a bright pink pole and flashes a cheeky smile as he poses in a pair of jeans with underwear with his character's name visible above the waistline.

Just like the doll, the Blue Valentine actor appears hairless with a rock-hard six pack as he brings the children's toy to life for the upcoming romantic comedy.

Barbie, directed by Oscar-nominated Greta Gerwig, will also see actress Margot Robbie star as the titular character in the movie based on the eponymous toyline by Mattel.

Ahead of the film's release next year, Warner Bros have released a number of promotional images of the cast - with Ryan's transformation into a 'blond himbo' not going unnoticed by the internet.

"Ryan Gosling as Ken in #Barbie is actually perfect," one Twitter user declared on Wednesday, with another adding: "Ryan Gosling as Ken can run me over!!!"

The actor has been blonde on screen before, for his role in The Place Beyond The Pines alongside wife Eva Mendes (Studio Canal)

A third quipped: "ryan gosling as himbo ken…. he’s gonna crush it."

Another noted Ryan's resemblance to a Love Island contestant, writing: "mixed reactions on ryan gosling as ken but to me it’s literally ken jdjdkfkfk like not the ken dolls from my youth but definitely the ken dolls I see in stores today like they all give 'can I pull u for a chat?'"

Barbie, scheduled to released in July 2023, will also see big names like Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon and Michael Cera all make appearances.

While we've only just seen shirtless Ryan as Ken, images of Margot as the iconic doll were released earlier this year.

After her casting was confirmed in July 2019, the Wolf of Wall Street actress, 32, went on to discuss how the film's goal is to subvert expectations

"We like the things that feel a little left of centre. Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, 'Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,' but our goal is to be like, 'Whatever you're thinking, we're going to give you something totally different'," the actress explained to The Hollywood reporter.

"The thing you didn't know you wanted. Now, can we truly honor the IP and the fan base and also surprise people? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we're really firing on all cylinders."

No plot details have been shared so far, other than the cast and their characters being confirmed.
