Ryan Giggs insists Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be given time to make his mark - just as Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp were.
Solskjaer's credentials at Manchester United have again been questioned this week following the drab draws with Arsenal and AZ Alkmaar.
United didn't even manage a shot on target in Holland and sit 10th in the Premier League ahead of their trip to lowly Newcastle this weekend.
Red Devils legend Giggs played with Solskjaer at Old Trafford and maintains he deserves the chance to put his stamp on the squad.
Wales boss Giggs said: "It's a tough job at the moment. What Manchester United have had in the last four to five years is a mix of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho players.
"He's unfortunate in a way to be in the same era as Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
"Klopp is in his fourth year at Liverpool . Pep established Man City during that time. Maurcio Pochettino has had six years with Spurs. Ole has to be given time too.
"You need that time to mould your team into the way you want them to play, although whether managers always get that time in this day and age is another thing."
United make the trip to St James' Park as they bid to arrest their poor away form.
Solskjaer's men have not won any of their last 10 away matches in all competitions, losing six of those encounters.
Newcastle sit 19th in the Premier League with just one win to their name after their embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Leicester last time out.
