Ryan Giggs tells Jesse Lingard to copy Mesut Ozil after Man United's defeat to Arsenal

Ryan Giggs has compared Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard to Arsenal's Mesut Ozil, citing the difference in 'talent and intelligence' between the two players.

Ozil has impressed for the Gunners since the arrival of Mikel Arteta as head coach, starting all three games under the new boss.

The latest of them starts saw the German come up against Manchester United, a game which Arsenal came out as 2-0 victors to earn their first three points under Arteta.

Lingard was preferred to Andreas Pereira in the number 10 role for Man United, but failed to have an impact on the game, in a performance that caused some fans to call for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to lose his job at Old Trafford.

Following the match, Giggs compared the performance of the two starting number 10s.

"He’s [Mesut Ozil] an intelligent player and you see the difference between the two No.10s," Giggs told the Premier League.

"Ozil, even though he has big running stats, when Arsenal had the ball he was actually holding his position. He wasn’t running towards the ball. So he was probably doing most of his running in a defensive aspect.

"Whereas Jesse, when United were on the ball, just kept coming towards the ball and closing the space. Whereas Ozil was patient.

"And that comes from the coach and looking at the last couple of games, because you have got a talented and intelligent individual."
