A court has heard details of text messages between Ryan Giggs and his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville.
Giggs, 48, denies using controlling and coercive behaviour against Ms Greville, 36, between August 2017 and November 2020. He is accused of assaulting her, causing actual bodily harm and the common assault of her younger sister.
During cross-examination, defence counsel Chris Daw QC read out a number of messages sent between the footballer and his then girlfriend, Ms Greville. Messages examined in the case included racy photos and a so-called “sex bruise.”

The court heard while in Dubai in September 2017, Ms Greville said a friend noticed a bruise on her arm following an alleged assault by Giggs, in which she claims the former Wales manager dragged her naked from a hotel bed and threw her belongings into the corridor. It is claimed Ms Greville told her friend at the time the bruise was caused by “rough sex.”
Mr Daw said: “You didn’t say anything about it being an assault.”
Ms Greville replied: “No, because I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to admit it.”
Mr Daw then alleged the bruise was caused by "rough sex" that the couple "enjoyed a lot.” Ms Greville denied the allegation, saying: “That bruise was not caused by rough sex.”
A few days after the alleged Dubai incident Ms Greville sent a photograph of herself to Giggs. The message read: “Tan is coming along nicely. My sex bruise is coming along nicely too!!”
Mr Daw said: “The truth of it is you did from time to time get bruises from sex.”
Ms Greville said she does not recall this.
Mr Daw then read another message from September 2017, following the alleged Dubai assault, in which Ms Greville wrote to Giggs: “I want you so badly rough.”
Giggs replied: “Do you? I’m scared of hurting you.”
Ms Greville responded saying she wanted "it to hurt a little [but] not in a weird way."
She said: “I just want you to shock and surprise me.”
Giggs said “It’s a fine line,” to which Ms Greville responded: “We will just have to have fun finding that line then.”
Giggs then sent a racy photograph of a 'paddle' to which Ms Greville replied: “What is that?”
Giggs replies: “You asked me to be a bit more assertive.”
Ms Greville says: “I’m intrigued. When are you using this?”
Giggs sends a photograph of a pair of handcuffs and says: “Just after you have used this.” Ms Greville responded: “Amazing.”
Giggs said: “They f****** are.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Ms Greville claimed she became “a slave to every need and every demand” of the former United winger. On Tuesday (August 9), the court heard how Giggs allegedly had “full-on relationships” with eight women during the period when he was with Ms Greville.
She also claimed he was “almost like two people” during their relationship and how she saw early “red flags" in his behaviour. Giggs denies all the allegations.
